Adam Lambert was typically great tonight covering U2 and Aerosmith, but to my mind, both Danny Gokey and Kris Allen turned in their best performances of the season. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Adam Lambert’s patented wailing was well-suited to tonight’s rock theme, especially for a Led Zeppelin cover. Both Danny and Kris were disasters, but I still wouldn’t be surprised to see Alison go tomorrow night.

In the clip on the left, TMZ ambushes Adam Lambert and he *almost* outs himself. On the right, Anderson Cooper picks Lambert to win and disses Paula Abdul.

Everybody’s pick for next to go, Matt Giraud, was indeed next to go. The shocker was Adam Lambert placing in the bottom two. Immediately the fan forums lit up with cries of “set-up!” and “rigged!” as devotees speculated that the producers were engaging in shenanigans. Two words: Chris Daughtry.

Tonight was “rat pack” night on American Idol, in which the contestants were to deliver their takes on Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, etc. I’m not sure what Nina Simone has to do with the rat pack or big band, but Adam Lambert’s take on Feeling Good was typically bombastic and theatrical. Not very surprising, other than the abrupt fashion in which Lil was booted at the beginning of the show. Oh, and if you haven’t been able to log onto Facebook tonight, it probably melted down from all the digital acid thrown at disco oldsters Freda Payne and Harry Wayne Casey. Yowtch! Y’all know that KC is family, right?

Tonight was disco night on American Idol and out of seven performances we got three Donna Summer songs (Hot Stuff, Dim All The Lights, She Works Hard For The Money) and two Bee Gees songs (Stayin’ Alive and If I Can’t Have You). I’m not sure what kind of musical advice Quentin Tarantino was supposed to be giving on movie theme night, but tonight was surely the oddest of Idol’s guest coach moments. At this point, one must pity the other contestants, none of whom are outright terrible, for they are truly on a different show than Adam Lambert.

Last night the contestants performed songs from the year of their birth – meaning everything sounded really recent to me. The show ran long and last-to-perform Adam Lambert was only allowed one judge review – a standing ovation from Simon Cowell.

Another killer performance from our boy Adam Lambert. There’s still eight weeks left in the competition, but at this point it seems the show is his to lose.
