Johnson ran to represent Christine Quinn’s former district, which covers much of Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea. Johnson came out as HIV+ in a May interview with the New York Times.  His opponent was openly lesbian lawyer Yetta Kurland. Johnson will face Republican Richard Stewart in the general election and should cruise to any easy win.

Openly lesbian New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn finished with 15% of the vote. She has conceded.
