Hickory the Scottish deerhound won best in show at the Westminster Dog Show in Manhattan last night. I attended Westminster a few years ago and the best part is walking around under Madison Square Garden before the show, when they let you meet a lot of the dogs.

Yesterday I was surprised by how much I enjoyed watching the Medal Of Freedom ceremony at the White House, where the honorees included Maya Angelou, Bill Russell, Yo-Yo Ma, Warren Buffet, Jasper Johns, and Bush 41, who appeared startlingly frail and had to be helped to his seat by a sturdy Marine.

While Carrie Fisher chatted with Oprah about her father’s affair with Elizabeth Taylor, her mom Debbie Reynolds turned to the audience to offer a frank review of Eddie Fisher. Oprah roared, Carrie rolled her eyes, and I ran to take a photo of the TV.
