2024 Rock Hall Of Fame Nominees: Cher, Mariah Carey, Sinead O’Connor, Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade, & More

Billboard Magazine reports:

The 2024 Rock Hall nominees are: Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige; powerhouse singer-songwriter Mariah Carey; half-century-plus pop icon Cher; roots rock jam band Dave Matthews Band; hip-hop pioneers Eric B. & Rakim; stadium rock hitmakers Foreigner; arena-filling guitar (and talk box) pro Peter Frampton; alt hard rockers Jane’s Addiction; funky R&B legends Kool & the Gang; rock standard bearer Lenny Kravitz; Britpop poster boys Oasis; alt pop iconoclast Sinéad O’Connor; metal god Ozzy Osbourne; sophisticated R&B purveyors Sade; and alt hip-hop progenitors A Tribe Called Quest.

Variety reports

Cher recently made news by declaring that she would refuse to participate in an induction if she were elected, although her election would not be affected by her willingness, as was proven two years ago when the Hall announced that Parton would not be taken off the ballot despite her then-stated wishes. The country star came around and embraced her exaltation eventually, as many imagine Cher would be likely to. Still, Cher seemed pretty firm at the time, declaring in December, “You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”

Cyndi Lauper, nominated last year, didn’t make this year’s list and neither did Chic, which has been nominated a record 11 times.

Legendary producer Nile Rodgers and his late musical partner Bernard Edwards, Chic’s founders, were inducted in 2017.

As for Sade, I can’t tell if today’s nomination is for the singer or for her band of the same name.
