McCarthy, in a nearly hour-long interview with a small group of reporters in his hideaway Capitol office on Thursday afternoon, took aim at Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., the man who spearheaded the push to dispose him as speaker. “He’s just, you know, people study that type of crazy mind — maybe at the FBI,” McCarthy said of Gaetz.
Gaetz is currently under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, after the Justice Department earlier this year decided to not bring charges against the lawmaker in a sex-trafficking inquiry. The former speaker argued that Gaetz kick-started the campaign to get rid of him because of his ongoing ethics investigation.
