Federal Prosecutors Seek To Forcibly Medicate Planned Parenthood Shooter: He Thinks Witches Are After Him

The Denver Post reports:

Federal prosecutors want to forcibly medicate the man charged with carrying out a deadly mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs seven years ago in an attempt to move forward with the long-stalled criminal cases against him.

Robert Dear, 64, has repeatedly admitted to killing three people and wounding nine others during a mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs in 2015, but the criminal proceedings against him have been on hold for years as he continually has been found mentally unable to stand trial.

Dear believes he is being persecuted by the FBI, that former President Barack Obama is the anti-Christ and sent agents to kill Dear, that staff at the hospital where he is being held are witches and warlocks, and that Masons carried out the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas

Denver’s ABC affiliate reports:

On Nov. 27, 2015, Dear allegedly shot several people in the parking lot of a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, forced his way inside the clinic, and attacked more people inside before barricading himself. After a five-hour standoff in which he allegedly fired nearly 200 rounds, including at nearby propane tanks, Dear was taken into custody.

He is accused of fatally shooting 44-year-old University of Colorado in Colorado Springs Police Officer Garrett Swasey, 36-year-old Jennifer Markovsky, a mother of two, and Ke’Arre Stewart, a 29-year-old Army veteran and father of two. Eight others were injured.

The Associated Press reports:

Dear interrupted proceedings several times with outbursts, psychologist Lea Ann Preston Baecht said there was a substantial likelihood medication would be able to treat his delusional disorder to a point where he would be able to participate in his case and help his defense. Dear responded by shouting “Marijuana,” one of many comments from him during the hearing.

“This is my brain at stake. They want to turn me into a zombie,” he said, prompting Judge Robert E. Blackburn to issue another warning to be quiet or risk being removed from the hearing. Previously in court, Dear has declared himself a “warrior of the babies” and said he was guilty. He made other similar statements during Tuesday’s hearing, such as “I’m glad I did what I did. Total success.”

Dear last appeared on JMG in 2015 when he declared, “I am guilty. There will be no trial. I am a warrior for the babies.”
