National Guard Deploys Humvees On DC Streets

The Washington Post reports:

National Guard troops have begun deploying on the streets of the nation’s capital, with Humvees and troops spotted along the National Mall, a day after President Donald Trump federalized the local police department and issued officers a far-reaching mandate to “do whatever the hell they want” to curb crime. Yet it remained unclear what new directives, if any, D.C. police would receive from their new federal managers.

District officials said they were still in command of the department, operating as usual having received no new orders from the Trump administration. As the sun began to set, five Humvees lined the street at the corner of Jefferson Drive and 14th Street SW, between the National Museum of African American History and the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Troops walked the sidewalks that form walking paths around the monuments, as three DEA agents headed east toward the U.S. Capitol.
