GOP Bill Would Block “Woke” Student Mental Health Screenings That Could Identify Potential Mass Shooters

Today, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) reintroduced the Parents Opt-In Protection Act to protect parental rights and combat Illinois’ new mandate for student mental health screenings.

Congresswoman Miller’s bill requires prior written consent from a parent or the student (if an adult or emancipated minor) before any school survey on sensitive personal information can be administered.

“J.B. Pritzker’s plan to impose invasive ‘mental health screenings’ on kids, forcing parents to jump through hoops to opt out, is ridiculous and unacceptable,” said Congresswoman Mary Miller. “My bill will put parents back in charge by requiring written consent before these screenings happen.”

On July 31, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed SB1560 into law, and it will go into effect in the 2027-2028 school year. Rep. Miller’s bill would give parents and students a clear way to stop the screenings before they happen, instead of navigating burdensome opt-out processes.

Read the full press release. Perhaps obviously, Pritzer hopes to identify students at risk of becoming mass shooters or of doing themselves physical harm. Miller and her fellow far-right House reps don’t want that.

In June 2025, with the public backing of major anti-LGBTQ hate groups, Miller introduced a House resolution declaring June to be “Family Month” because “God hates perversion.” Miller, whose allegedly militia-aligned husband allegedly attended the Capitol riot, first appeared here in 2021 when she positively quoted Adolf Hitler from podium of a Moms For America rally.
