Trump Admin Closes Dupont Circle In Second Reversal

Washington DC’s CBS affiliate reports:

Dupont Circle is officially closed for WorldPride weekend. Police were in the area early Friday morning roping it off. The latest move comes after the original closure sparked backlash from neighbors, prompting a reversal from D.C.’s police chief. Now it appears the temporary closure is back on. A spokesperson for the National Park Service told WUSA9 that the park would be closed from 5 a.m. on Friday to approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Dupont Circle Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Jeff Rueckgauer slammed Mayor Muriel Bowser earlier this week for not speaking out against the park’s closure during Pride weekend. Following the backlash, Smith rescinded her original request to close the park. However, U.S. Park Police Major Frank Hishler followed up with his own letter to National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent Kevin Greiss, asserting his belief that the closure should happen.
