CBS News reports:
A top California union official was charged with interfering with law enforcement operations after he was arrested during anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, according to court documents filed Monday. David Huerta, the president of the California division of the Service Employees International Union, is set to appear in court for an initial appearance on one felony charge of conspiracy to impede an officer after he was arrested Friday during protests over ICE raids.
According to a Homeland Security Investigation officer’s sworn affidavit, Huerta sat down in front of a vehicular gate to a staging ground for ICE operations that were ongoing nearby. The complaint alleges he yelled to the protestors “stop the vehicles,” and “it’s a public sidewalk, they can’t stop us.” The officer then says he asked Huerta to move from the gate so that cars could get in and out of the facility, and Huerta replied, “What are you going to do? You can’t arrest all of us.”

The arrest of our union brother David Huerta, who was detained while exercising his First Amendment rights, comes on the heels of a racist travel ban by the Trump Administration. Today, we are standing in solidarity with our allies to say: this wave of terror must stop – NOW!… https://t.co/AOy1tQI2PU pic.twitter.com/PMQxOhfMAo

David Huerta is a U.S. citizen and labor leader who was violently arrested by ICE because he dared to advocate for the rights of immigrant workers. From Los Angeles to New York City, we stand together against a fake king who leads with cruelty and tries to rule through fear. pic.twitter.com/t184PhfT0x

David Huerta is free—and back in the arms of his wife where he belongs. This never should’ve happened. Detaining peaceful advocates is a disgrace. We will not be intimidated. We will keep fighting—for David, for justice, and for every voice they try to silence. https://t.co/7OUAAu7Mxe
