Newsweek reports:
President Donald Trump signed multiple executive orders on Friday aimed at boosting the domestic nuclear energy industry. The orders aim to simplify the regulatory process for approving new nuclear reactors and to strengthen nuclear fuel supply chains amid mounting concerns over U.S. dependence on foreign suppliers.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, “Energy security is national security. By having small, modular nuclear, we’re going to have the lights on and AI operating when others do not.”
The White House said that the order directs the reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) “to reduce our dependence on foreign technologies, decrease regulatory barriers, and support our domestic nuclear industry.”
