MAGA outlet Florida’s Voice reports:
The Florida House passed a bill Wednesday that bars geoengineering and weather modification activities in the state and sent it to the governor for final approval. SB 56 prohibits intentional geoengineering and weather modification activities within Florida’s borders, establishing felony penalties for violations.
The bill outlaws the injection, release, or dispersion of substances into the atmosphere to affect temperature, weather, climate, or sunlight intensity. It classifies violations as third-degree felonies, punishable by imprisonment by up to five years and fines of up to $100,000 with a $5,000 fine cap for aircraft operators and controllers.
Sen. Ileana Garcia [photo] is carrying the bill in the Senate. Rep. Kevin Steele and Rep. Debbie Mayfield are carrying the companion bill, HB 477, in the House.
Florida Politics reports:
Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) noted that the legislation doesn’t clearly outline how DEP would investigate claims of suspected weather modification, nor does it detail a process by which the department would turn over its investigation to law enforcement. “This bill is feeding into conspiracy theories, and I think it’s important that we do not legislate under that type of pressure but that we legislate on science, we legislate on fact, we legislate not on fear but on information,” she said.
Rep. Kevin Steele (R) mockingly referred to Eskamani and said, “The last time we had to listen to the science, we wore masks for nine months.” SB 56 and HB 477 drew ample public testimony as they advanced through their respective chambers, including from actress and TV personality Marla Maples, President Donald Trump’s second wife, who suggested an increase in Alzheimer’s disease cases could be due to geoengineering.
Garcia, the founder of Latinas For Trump, first appeared here in 2021 when she was declared the winner despite a nonexistent “ghost candidate” with the same last name of her Democratic challenger having siphoned away his votes. In 2022, Garcia declared that “gay is not a permanent thing” during the debate on Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill. She later offered a halfhearted apology.
