Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent advocated for the U.S. to adopt fiscal policies mirroring those of Florida, contrasting the state’s approach with that of New York. “We want the U.S. to be more like Florida and less like New York,” Bessent said during an interview on Fox News with Bret Baier.
Bessent highlighted the significant disparity in state spending between the two populous states.
“New York spends about $235 billion a year, Florida spends about $125 billion,” Bessent said. “Both states have approximately the same number of people, but Florida doesn’t have an income tax. And I can tell you having lived in both, it’s better not to have an income tax, and Florida gives better services.”
