DOGE Defunds Illinois Zoo Over BIO Diversity Research

Politico reports:

The White House’s Department of Government Efficiency office has targeted a behavioral diversity program to be cut from Brookfield Zoo.

Problem is, it has nothing to do with diversity, equity and inclusion in the traditional DEI sense. “It’s about bio-diversity and animal welfare,” said Brookfield Zoo Chicago Senior VP Andrea Rodgers.

The funding cut wasn’t a complete surprise, Rodgers said, referring to the wild ways of DOGE. “We’re in a constant wait-and-see moment,” she said, adding that the federal grants to Brookfield Zoo are tied to the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, which has seen funding cuts for the past week.
