The Minnesota Star Tribune reports:
Minnesota state Sen. Justin Eichorn allegedly arranged to meet someone he thought was a teenage girl for prostitution and instead was arrested by police in Bloomington, authorities announced Tuesday.
After Eichorn’s arrest, the Senate Republican Caucus said in a statement, “We are shocked by these reports, and this alleged conduct demands an immediate resignation. Justin has a difficult road ahead, and he needs to focus on his family.”
In the House, Speaker Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, and Leader Harry Niska, R-Ramsey, said in a joint statement: “Given the seriousness of the charges, Senator Eichorn should resign. While he is entitled to due process, we must hold legislators to a higher standard.” Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, remains jailed on suspicion of soliciting a minor for prostitution.

As was reported here on Monday, Eichorn is the co-sponsor of a bill that would formally classify “Trump Derangement Syndrome” as a mental illness. The bill was introduced by its other state Senate sponsor on the same day as Eichorn’s arrest. Eichorn has campaigned on a family values platform and has accused LGBTQ people and teachers of grooming children, saying, “before you know it, they’ll be reading kids ‘50 Shades of Grey.’” Eichorn is married with four children.
