Municipal diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are one step closer to elimination after the Senate Community Affairs committee moved Sen. Clay Yarborough’s legislation (SB 420) forward along party lines.
The Jacksonville Republican’s bill would block local governments from passing DEI initiatives and make ones already in law illegal.

Expect Florida Republicans to argue that local LGBTQ rights ordinances, which are in place in dozens of Florida cities, fall under “DEI.”
Sen. Clay Yarborough [photo above] first appeared on JMG in 2010, when as a member of the Jacksonville City Council he declared that gays, Muslims, and atheists should not be permitted to hold public office, otherwise God will smite the fuck out of the country.
In April 2023, lawmakers approved Yarborough’s ban on drag shows before minors. Yarborough is also the author several anti-trans bills.

Clay Yarborough authored Florida’s new anti-trans bill that wld enable the state to steal trans kids from their parents if they receive gender affirming care. He calls himself a “Christ follower.” The hate is coming from Christian zealots. It just is, & voters deserve to know. 1/ pic.twitter.com/IEqWIVHyIo

Thankful for all who have sacrificed to give us the freedoms we enjoy today. We have none except through the finished work of Christ that makes us free indeed. #BlessedNation #FreedomIsntFree pic.twitter.com/6Ab0CkdDTZ
