Bessent Threatens NBC Host Over Recession Question

“It was a silly question. ‘Can you guarantee there’s not gonna be a recession?’ I can’t guarantee anything. I can’t guarantee that the journalist who asked me the question that her news program is gonna be on in a year.

“What I can guarantee that there is no reason that we need to have a recession. I think the economy, the first quarter, is doing better than the media is reporting. I think we seeing some very good underlying data from credit card companies, from banks.

“I think the airlines, which reported some bad passenger numbers, I think a big part of that is from federal employees who are not flying right now.” – Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent, referring to yesterday’s question by Meet The Press host Kristen Welker.
