Yahoo News reports:
President Trump has amended his lawsuit against CBS, effectively doubling the damage claim to $20 billion for what he says was a deceptive edit of the network’s interview with Kamala Harris.
Trump sued late last year, saying “60 Minutes” favorably arranged the then-Vice President’s answers on the war in Gaza, a violation of state consumer protection law. The President amended that complaint in a Texas court late Friday night, adding an unfair competition claim under federal law, saying CBS harmed his Truth Social platform.
The new lawsuit is separately seeking $10 billion in damages on both the state and federal claims. CBS has sought to dismiss the lawsuit on multiple First Amendment grounds.
Variety reports:
The complaint was also amended to address CBS’ arguments in its motion to dismiss. CBS had noted that neither it nor Trump resides in Texas, and therefore there is no reason to litigate the case in Amarillo. If the case is not dismissed, CBS asked to move it to New York.
In response, Trump added Ronny Jackson, the Republican congressman from Amarillo, as a co-plaintiff. The amended complaint alleges that Jackson is, like Trump, a consumer of news who was “deceived and misled” by the “60 Minutes” interview.
Paramount Global, the parent of CBS, is nevertheless considering a potential settlement with Trump, according to sources familiar with the matter. Trump called this week for CBS’ license to be revoked, and the FCC would have to approve Paramount’s pending merger with Skydance.
Trump, of course, filed the suit in that Texas district because the case will be heard by far-right, anti-LGBTQ, Christian nationalist Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who recently ruled that abortion pills should be banned nationwide.
Earlier this week, Trump demanded that Ronny Jackson stand up and declare him the “healthiest patient” he ever had. Jackson obliged.
TRUMP: Who was the healthiest patient you ever had?
RONNY JACKSON: Trump!
