New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is holding meetings on Tuesday in New York City as calls grow for Mayor Eric Adams to resign from his position. She’s set to meet with City Comptroller Brad Lander, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Rev. Al Sharpton, and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The meetings come after four deputy mayors stepped down from their positions on Monday amid allegations that the Trump administration may be exerting influence over City Hall.
Hochul has the power to remove Adams from office if he doesn’t resign. She has not said if she plans to do so, but if she did, it would be the first time in New York state history that a governor overturned the will of the voters. Hochul released a statement on Monday night, saying the Tuesday meetings are “a conversation about the path forward, with the goal of ensuring stability for the City of New York.”
