The Montreal Gazette reports:
Christopher Dip was talking with family around the dinner table in early February when the conversation turned to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats and what they could mean economically for Canada over the next four years. Still thinking about the issue the next morning, Dip brainstormed with a friend, Alexandre Hamila, and an idea was born: What if they could make an app to help people identify Canadian products while shopping?
The resulting app, Buy Beaver, was launched soon after and quickly accumulated over 100,000 downloads. The app now allows shoppers to scan items and learn whether they’re Canadian or not, with each scan bringing up a product’s manufacturing location, where its ingredients are sourced from and its brand ownership. It relies on user reviews to rank products and encourages people to pitch in with information about brands they know.
