The Hill reports:
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) has called for the deportation Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a U.S. citizen, to her birth country of Somalia. “America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia,” Gill wrote Tuesday on the social platform X.
Gill, a first-term lawmaker representing Texas’s 26th Congressional District, was responding to a clip another X user shared Tuesday of the Minnesota Democrat’s recent interview with a reporter.
Thirty minutes later, in another post, Gill wrote that “we should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country.” Omar came to the U.S. as a refugee in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen at 17 years old in 2000.
Some background about Brandon Gill:
Gill comes to Congress as a former Wall Street employee turned clickbait mogul, transformed in no small part by his relationship to longtime conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza. Gill married D’Souza’s daughter, Danielle, in 2017.
That year, Gill launched a hyperpartisan blog called DC Enquirer under a company that lists Gill, D’Souza and D’Souza’s daughter as stakeholders. DC Enquirer quickly caught fire on Facebook, beating The Washington Post’s account in engagement.
Gill said Trump once sent a thank you after an article praising his golf handicap. Gill also helped to market his father-in-law’s film “2000 Mules,” a widely disputed compilation of conspiracy theories alleging massive voter fraud in 2020 elections.
The New Republic reports:
Elon Musk is sending his digital minions after Representative Ilhan Omar, all based on a fake video posted by the pitiable right-wing shill Ian Miles Cheong. On Tuesday, Cheong posted an obviously edited video in which he claimed the progressive congresswoman was “conducting seminars for Somalians who are living illegally in the U.S. without documentation, providing guidance on how to evade deportation.”
The video shows a random room full of unidentified people of seemingly East African descent, then cuts to Omar being interviewed in a completely different room. The richest man in the world shared the video, clutching at his pearls. “She is breaking the law. Literally. Outright,” he wrote on X of Omar allegedly telling immigrants that they were not required to answer questions if detained by ICE. And that didn’t even happen.
Gill last appeared here when he called for Trump to seize Greenland and Panama by military force. Obviously, it’s not illegal to advise immigrants about their rights.
