The Tampa Bay Times reports:
A Clearwater man who vandalized the Delray Beach LGBTQ+ pride intersection pleaded guilty in court Wednesday morning before apologizing at the request of a Palm Beach County judge.
“Do you understand what I mean when I use the word ‘remorse’?” Judge Daliah Weiss asked Dylan Reese Brewer, 19, before granting the plea deal, which critics have called a “sweetheart deal” because it allows Brewer to plead guilty to a misdemeanor instead of a felony.
“Yes, ma’am,” he said. “And you have stated that you are remorseful. Do you regret what you’ve done here?” Brewer replied, “Yes, ma’am.” Last February, Brewer performed three burnouts over the rainbow flag painted in the street with his friends in tow and a “President Trump” flag flying from his dark pickup truck.
Tampa’s ABC affiliate reports:
Dylan Brewer has been sentenced to probation and community service for vandalizing a Pride crosswalk in Delray Beach. Brewer took a plea agreement to charges of criminal mischief and reckless driving. He will serve 12 months’ probation along with a total of 150 hours of community service. Brewer’s license will also be revoked for a year.
As I reported last year, prominent cultists led by extremist podcaster Tim Pool launched a drive for Brewer’s legal defense, claiming that he has a First Amendment right to destroy public symbols of LGBTQ rights. Pool personally donated $10,000 to the fund, which stands at nearly $37,000 at this writing.
The crosswalk, which was installed in 2021 by the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council at a cost of $16,000, was almost immediately vandalized after its opening celebration by another man who was sentenced to two years of probation, community service, and mental health treatment. The perpetrator in the 2021 case was also flying a giant Trump flag from the bed of his truck.
I AM CALLING FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF POLITICAL PRISONER DYLAN BREWER
GOV. DESANTIS MUST GRANT AN IMMEDIATE PARDON FOR THE FAKE CRIME OF DRIVING OVER AN LGBTQ FLAG (WHICH SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ALLOWED TO BE PLACED THERE) https://t.co/UdvsOheWo5 pic.twitter.com/6CpIrWI6f1
