The Associated Press reports:
Donald Trump suggested Sunday that his new administration could try to regain control of the Panama Canal that the United States “foolishly” ceded, contending that shippers are charged “ridiculous” fees to pass through the vital transportation channel.
“We’re being ripped off at the Panama Canal,” he said. Panama’s conservative president José Raúl Mulino roundly rejected that notion as an affront to his country’s sovereignty. Mulino has been described as a populist who aligns with Trump on many issues.
Newsweek reports:
Trump has taunted Panama with a social media post saying: “welcome to the United States Canal.” The President-elect posted the message on Truth Social on Sunday, along with a photo of an American flag hanging from the mast of a ship appearing to travel through the Panama Canal.
“The United States has a vested interest in the secure, efficient, and reliable operation of the Panama Canal, and that was always understood. We would and will NEVER let it fall into the wrong hands! It was not given for the benefit of others, but merely as a token of cooperation with us and Panama.
“If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, and without question. To the Officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly!”
Four years of this insanity.
Now we know what the sudden threats against Panama and ownership of the Panama Canal are all about.

I’m gonna miss the good ol’ days when the President of the US did NOT provoke international incidents via tweet. Those were the days, my friends. Those were the days.

Now he wants Greenland too.
So Annex Greenland & Canada… Invade Mexico… Steal the Panama Canal…
Imagine the reaction if any other world leader was regularly saying belligerent stuff like this. pic.twitter.com/bdcLu780di
