Fuentes Says He Was Targeted By Would-Be Assassin, Man Was Killed By Police After He Killed Three Others

Chicago’s WBEZ radio reports:

Nick Fuentes, a far-right streamer known for his racist, sexist and antisemitic views, claimed Thursday that he was the target of a “would-be assassin” who was fatally shot by police near his home in Berwyn after allegedly killing three people downstate.

Fuentes made the jarring claim shortly after his first hearing on a battery charge that stems from a bizarre confrontation last month outside the home, which had become a target for his critics after his address was leaked online in response to a controversial social media post he made.

“Last night an armed killer made an attempt on my life at my home, which was recently doxed on this platform,” Fuentes wrote on the social media platform X. “The gunman carried a pistol, crossbow, and incendiary devices. I believe he intended to kill me. He is now dead. I am okay!”

Chicago’s NBC affiliate reports:

According to Illinois State Police, three people were killed in the 1100 block of Riverside Drive in Mahomet, located just outside of Champaign. All three were shot, with one pronounced dead at the scene and two others dying at area hospitals.

The man suspected in those killings was then spotted roughly two hours later, as authorities said Berwyn police responded to the 1800 block of Home Avenue for reports of a man armed with a gun.

Upon arrival, police said the man fled on foot and successfully escaped the two responding police officers before forcing his way into a home on a nearby street, where he fatally shot two dogs. Officials said the man then fled into a yard, once again on Home Avenue.

Chicago’s CBS affiliate reports:

Police ordered the gunman to stop, but he opened fire at officers, who returned fire, killing him. He has been identified as 24-year-old John R. Lyons, of Westchester.

White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes posted a video in which he claims he was the intended target in Berwyn. Doorbell camera video in his post shows someone with a gun and what appears to be a crossbow outside Fuentes’ home, and the timestamp on that video is about 10 minutes before police said they were called about Lyons. Police have not connected Lyons to the incident at Fuentes’ home.

One victim, 26-year-old Sara Mason, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Champaign County Coroner’s office. Two others – 61-year-old Janis L. Mason and 23-year-old Caleb M. Mason – were taken to Carle Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

There’s more at every link above. In the replies to his tweet below, Fuentes’ followers are blaming Jews. Because of course. Others wonder if the man was seeking refuge in Fuentes’ home.
