Happy New Year, JMG Community!

Another action-packed year has come and gone for this here website thingy, which in a few months will mark its 21st anniversary. Which just seems…impossible.

The last 12 months we saw an unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ bills, some of which were spawned by the same hate groups that have antagonized us for decades. Most of those bills targeted our trans brothers and sisters with the encouragement of the fascist-elect, who has emboldened the worst of the right wing.

Speaking of the orange monster, in this post last year I exulted in his many pending criminal charges, hoping for some “gay joy” should justice be served. But it was not to be, thanks in part to a flaccid judicial system.

Most Democrats continue to have our backs, but 2025 will surely test many our hard-won rights. Whatever does happen in the next 12 months, we’ll all be here together to share our fears, outrage, and hopefully, our triumphs.

As I mention in this post every year, aggregating breaking news is like a homework assignment that is never done, but is always due. Per my dashboard, the past 12 months saw around 15,000 JMG posts, which, again, seems impossible. But you all make it a lot easier with your emails, your story tips, and your participation.

I thank you all for your robust opinions and for making the JMG comments section, by far, the most lively in the entire LGBTQ blogosphere. I treasure the comradery among the JMG crew, your kindness to one another, and your personal advocacy for our people.

Special 2024 thanks go out as always to our nimble JMG tech support guy Jack, who springs into action at all hours when the fuckheads try to fuck with us. Thanks to Jack and with the help of a new defense program we licensed due to scraping by AI bots, we saw virtually zero down time this year.

Lastly, I want to extend my annual big furry hug to all of you who hit the JMG tip jar. Digital ad rates have been cratering for years, a majority of our visitors use ad blockers, and as you’ve probably read, traffic to progressive sites has plummeted since the election as many have understandably tuned out the news to preserve their mental health. But thanks to you, we’re managing to keep the lights on.

Seriously, thank you.
