Newsweek reports:
Outrage ensued after Satanists were allowed to set up a holiday display at the Minnesota State Capitol this year. The Minnesota Satanists shared in a Facebook post over the weekend that they have their first-ever holiday display at the Capitol building in St. Paul, sparking a wave of criticism from Republicans toward Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat.
Representative Tom Emmer [photo], a Minnesota Republican: “Is there anything Tim Walz won’t do to insult Minnesotans?” Representative Pete Stauber, a Minnesota Republican: “When you get a DFL [Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party] trifecta, you get a Satanic display at our state Capitol. During the holidays… what a disgrace. Only in Walz’s Minnesota.”
Walz’s office responded to the display in a statement to Newsweek Monday evening. “The Governor does not agree with the display and did not approve it. But the First Amendment means that he does not police speech in the State Capitol. That’s true whether it’s a religious display, a political protest, or a Minnesotan advocating for a policy,” the statement reads.

Religion is a system of belief that honors the creator or creators. Satanism, in every form, mocks the creator. Satanism is therefore not a religion and is therefore not protected by the First Amendment.
