The Washington Post reports:
Memorial services for former president Jimmy Carter are expected to span several days and include public events in Atlanta and Washington. Afterward, the 39th president will be buried in a private ceremony in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, the Carter Center said Sunday.
There will be a state funeral in Washington. The date and arrangements remain unclear as of Sunday evening, but President Joe Biden said he has been in touch with Carter’s family and started the process to hold a state funeral.
Later on Sunday night, Biden issued a proclamation declaring a National Day of Mourning on Jan. 9. He also ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days on federal buildings, military posts and naval stations, and all naval vessels.
