“I know the left doesn’t want our kids to know anything about the role the Bible played in American history. They don’t want any of our kids to know about the Constitution.
“Our religious liberties are protected, and the left has driven the Bible out of schools, driven prayer out of schools and everything in education has gotten worse since before we had a federal Department of Education and we had the Bible and prayer in school.
“Guess what? We were leading the free world, this was the greatest country in the world, and we have seen every statistic has gotten worse since the creation of the federal Department of Education and the Supreme Court pulled the Bible and prayer out of schools.” – Oklahoma schools chief Ryan Walters, this morning on CNN.
As you’ll see in the clips, CNN’s Pamela Brown countered with multiple examples of court cases against imposing Christianity on public schools students, which Walters called “leftist talking points.”
When Brown pointed out quotes by the Founding Fathers against establishing a state religion, well, those are also apparently “leftist talking points” and “gaslighting by CNN.”
Brown performed admirably in the face of nonsensical naysaying by Walters, who jabbed back over and over with variations of “the bible says.”
While it will surely be infuriating, I encourage you to watch the full exchange as a reminder of the mindset we’re up against. All of this, of course, is part of Walters’ campaign to be named Education Secretary.
The last clip below is the full thing.
CNN: Where is your authority coming from to enforce this prayer video to be played in schools?
RYAN WALTERS: I appreciate you pushing the left-wing narrative
C: It’s not a left-wing narrative. I’m literally talking about a petition parents have signed w/more than 14k signatures pic.twitter.com/Yd0lO9YHxc

I asked Ryan Walters, Oklahoma State Superintendent, about a controversial video he’s requiring students watch of him leading a prayer for President-Elect Trump, as well as the 500 Trump-endorsed Bibles he purchased for classrooms.

Damn. Pamela Brown wasn’t messing around here with Oklahoma schools superintendent Ryan Walters. pic.twitter.com/bKhrvOXbYf

PAMELA BROWN: The Trump bibles are $60 a pop. There are many bibles available that cost half that. Why are you using a Trump-endorsed bible?
RYAN WALTERS: The bible, declaration of independence, and constitution are all included in this bible that we purchased pic.twitter.com/lGn0dzrpnR
