In a statement, Trump said that Sebastian Gorka will be deputy assistant to the president and serve as senior director for counterterrorism, a role housed within the White House National Security Council. He praised Gorka, saying that “since 2015, Dr. Gorka has been a tireless advocate for the America First Agenda and the MAGA Movement.”

He gained prominence as a commentator and purported expert on counterterrorism in conservative media circles and served in the Trump White House in 2017 as strategist and deputy assistant to the president.

His views on Islam, in particular comments he’s made that violence is an intrinsic part of the Islamic faith, drew controversy, and his academic credentials have been drawn into question.

Gorka has appeared here countless times for his batshittery. In 2021, he was banned by YouTube for spreading lies about the 2020 election. In 2022, he sued the House January 6 commission to shield his phone records.

In 2020, he appeared here when he argued for the superiority of “whiteness,” declaring that white people alone are responsible for Western civilization.

Gorka regularly attacks the depiction of LGBTQ characters in television and movies, once going after PBS over a cartoon rat and later declaring that LGBTQ characters would “destroy” the Star Wars franchise.

As noted above, many believe his claimed doctorate to be fake. Right wing outlets that mock Jill Biden for her doctorate regularly list Gorka onscreen as “Dr. Sebastian Gorka.” See the Newsmax chyron below.
