As most of you surely recall, Trump for years called for banning TikTok until he learned that GOP megadonor Jeff Yass owns a $15 billion stake in the platform. Trump’s pick to head Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, was the first of many GOP governors to ban TikTok on state devices and Trump’s pick to run the State Department, Marco Rubio, wrote a 2022 Washington Post op-ed calling for the immediate ban of TikTok as “communist spyware.” The gaslighting is bottomless.
