Donald Trump has been radically transparent in his pledge to use — and abuse — the power of the presidency to seek retribution against Americans he believes have wronged him. He may not keep an official list, but a review of Trump’s public remarks reveals a vast catalog of perceived enemies whom he has marked for imprisonment, prosecution or other punishment. An NPR analysis found Trump has made more than 100 threats since 2022 to go after his perceived enemies.

The former president’s vague, haphazard speaking style has triggered fierce debate over who specifically falls into that “enemies” group, especially after he floated using the U.S. military against “radical left lunatics.” Trump’s desire for revenge burns hot for anyone involved in his four criminal cases and the litany of investigations he has faced over the last eight years, which he paints as one continuous “witch hunt.”
