Former NY Gov. David Paterson Attacked By Teenagers

New York City’s NBC affiliate reports:

Former New York Gov. David Paterson and his stepson were attacked on a Manhattan sidewalk Friday evening by a group of teenagers, according to police officials.

Paterson was with his 20-year-old stepson Anthony Chester Sliwa, who was walking his dog on Second Avenue near East 96th Street on the Upper East Side, sources who spoke with the family said. That’s when they noticed three teens playing around on a fire escape and told them to get down, law enforcement sources told NBC New York.

The teens came down and followed the former governor and his stepson to the corner, in front of a McDonalds on Second Avenue, where they attacked them, sources said. Sliwa was punched in the face during the attack, according to police officials.

The New York Post reports:

Paterson’s spokesperson Sean Darcy confirmed in a statement to The Post that the group of suspects “had a previous interaction with [Paterson’s] stepson.”

The ex-governor, who is legally blind, sustained an injury to his head, while his stepson suffered a face wound, sources said. Sources said his stepson’s injury was more severe.

They were taken to NY-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center “as a precaution,” Darcy said, adding that a police report had been filed. No arrests were made as of late Friday.

Anthony Sliwa is the son of nutbag Guardian Angels founder and failed New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa. Paterson married the elder Sliwa’s ex-wife in 2019.

Paterson, the former Minority Leader of the New York Senate, was elected lieutenant governor in 2006 as the running mate of Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who resigned in a prostitution scandal in 2008.

Paterson then served the remainder of Spitzer’s term, during which he helped lead the battle for same-sex marriage.
