Politico reports:
Sen. Ted Cruz, the famously sharp-elbowed Texan who was rated among the most hardline members of the Senate in his first and second terms, says that reputation is inaccurate — and he really wants voters to keep that in mind as he seeks another six years in Washington.
So, out are government shutdowns — Cruz voted for the continuing resolution to keep the government open this week. In are bipartisan achievements like new, trade-promoting bridges across the Rio Grande; tax relief for hurricane victims; and the most recent FAA Reauthorization Act.
Cruz is also touting efforts to protect in-vitro fertilization, an effort to blunt Democratic attacks on abortion rights. In the dozen years since Cruz was first elected, the GOP has seen its presidential margin of victory in Texas shrink from Mitt Romney’s 16-point win in 2012 to Donald Trump’s 6-point victory in 2020.
