USA Today reports:
Israeli protesters carried six empty coffins past Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in Jerusalem on Monday night, in a symbolic act after six hostages were found dead in a Gaza tunnel over the weekend.
But in his first public address since Israel’s military recovered the bodies of the six hostages, Netanyahu pushed back Monday night in a live press conference against the wave of pressure, fueled by grief and anger, that led to the street protests in cities across Israel that appeared to be the largest since the start of the war.
Netanyahu said “no one is more committed to freeing the hostages than me,” but “no one will preach to me.”
