Law & Crime reports:
A Colorado town council member is accused of shooting a teenager — who was hoping to use the man’s property for a high school homecoming photo shoot — in the face.
Brent Metz, 38, allegedly opened fire as two teens sat in a car on the other side of his property line on Tuesday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Deputies say they were dispatched to the home on an emergency call to report trespassers.
Deputies found two cars on the side of the road near Metz’s property, the statement said. As one deputy approached, he could see “a juvenile male bleeding heavily from his face.”
The Colorado Sun reports:
A town councilman who shot a 17-year-old boy in the face as the teen was scouting for a scenic spot to take homecoming photos exclaimed “My gun went off!” after he stepped out of his truck and pulled a handgun from its holster, according to court records.
The long-time friends left school with a mission to find a picturesque site for homecoming photos. When they spotted the home on Pleasant Park Road with a lake and a dock, they decided to hop the fence and ask the homeowner for permission to return the night of the homecoming dance to take photos.
The boys walked up a long driveway and knocked on the front door, but there was no answer, according to the affidavit. They told deputies they then went back to their car, which was parked along the road, and pulled out a school binder to start writing a note that they planned to leave for the homeowner.
CBS News reports:
Metz, is charged with first-degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm and two counts each of felony menacing and reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.
Investigators say the teens shared that they were in their Audi parked along the road writing a note to the homeowners to ask for permission when a pickup driven by Metz pulled up at an angle, blocking their departure.
“In the process of writing that note, a truck pulled up next to them. An adult male got out, pointed a gun at the windshield of their car and fired the gun,” said police.
