The Arizona Republic reports:
Moderation was not the theme of the day. Surrounded by screens advertising Turning Point Action, a Trump-aligned advocacy group, the speakers invoked religion, asserted their support of police and securing the border.
And they gave a nod to conspiracies. The “fake news” media was a frequent target of some of the speakers, never failing to generate boos for news reporters in attendance. Trump’s narrow escape from assassination July 13 was called a miracle.
Kari Lake spoke just before Trump took the stage at about 4:30 p.m., saying the country needed to be saved from a “thousand years of darkness” by electing Trump. He is “the only person who can lead us out of this nightmare and restore the American dream,” she said. “That’s why we elected him in 2016 and in 2020.”
The New York Times reports:
Representative Ruben Gallego took a jab at Lake’s lengthy rally speech on Friday, posting an image on social media of a screen that was shown to Lake as she was speaking that contained a message from the Trump campaign telling her that she needed to exit the stage so Donald Trump could begin.
“Please get off stage,” the screen read, adding that Trump was waiting. When Trump finally did take the stage, he seemed to joke about it when he shouted her out. “I was going to say, come on, Kari, speak, but she just spoke for half an hour,” he said. “What the hell.”
Images of the message have gone viral on X.
