Starmer Suggests Musk Is “Whipping Up Violence”

Politico Europe reports:

Britain’s Keir Starmer took aim at Elon Musk after the tech billionaire claimed the wave of far-right violence hitting the U.K. was “inevitable.” The British prime minister’s spokesperson said there was “no justification” for Musk’s comments, posted this weekend on the X platform he now owns.

Musk has made a play of his free-speech credentials as X’s owner and controversially reinstated the X account of British far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

“There is no justification for comments like that,” Starmer’s spokesperson hit back Monday. “What we’ve seen in this country is organized, illegal thuggery which has no place on our streets or online. Anyone who is whipping up violence online will face the full force of the law.”

Sky News reports:

Mosques and hotels housing asylum seekers have been among the targets of far-right demonstrations which have gripped the UK for the past week.

Sir Keir said the unrest “is not protest, it is pure violence”, adding: “We will not tolerate attacks on mosques or on Muslim communities”.

Musk replied: “Shouldn’t you be concerned about attacks on *all* communities?” Musk’s latest comments come as the government urges social media companies to do more to stop misinformation spreading online.

As was reported earlier today, far-right extremists such as Robinson and Andrew Tate have seized on false claims published by a Russian fake news site that last week’s fatal stabbing spree was committed by a Muslim asylum seeker. In fact, the perpetrator was born in Wales to Christian parents from Rwanda.
