Oklahoma City’s ABC affiliate reports:
The superintendent of Bixby Public Schools has filed a lawsuit claiming Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters defamed and slandered him during a news conference in late July.
In a lawsuit filed by Robert Miller Jr. in Tulsa County, the Bixby Public Schools superintendent says Walters made “maliciously uttered slanderous and defamatory statements” during a July 31 news conference. Following an Oklahoma State Board of Education meeting, Walters called Miller a “liar” a “clown” and a “true embarrassment.”
The statements were in response to a question about Miller asking Walters about when Oklahoma schools would receive estimates for Title I funding. According to the lawsuit, Bixby Public Schools has not received any Title I estimates and projections from the OSDE since Walters took office in 2023.

Walters has ordered daily bible lessons in all public school classes and has vowed to fire any teacher who does not comply.
Earlier this week around 25 Republican lawmakers moved to impeach Walters for refusing to their demands for transparency on his spending.
They are particularly irked that Walters has traveled the country on the state’s dime to appear at far-right and pro-Trump events.
The speaker of the Oklahoma House has said that he needs a majority to sign onto the impeachment letter before any action can begin.
Walters is widely expected to run to succeed Christian nationalist Gov. Kevin Stitt, who is term-limited.
