Rep. Mike Kelly Expected To Lead Shooting Task Force

Punchbowl News reports:

On the GOP side, it seems extremely likely that the panel will be led by Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) despite the fact that he’s not a lawyer. The shooting happened in Kelly’s district, and he sponsored the resolution creating the task force. Plus, Kelly is a big Trump booster.

Another name that keeps coming up is Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), the chair of the Homeland Security Committee, though it’s unclear if he’d be willing to serve on the task force if not asked to lead it.

Johnson will get seven seats on the panel. He’ll likely want to fill it with some House Oversight Committee members as well.

According to GOP Sen. Ron Johnson, it was Kelly who provided a list of fake electors that they attempted to pass along to Mike Pence.

Kelly last appeared here when it was revealed that he took $315,000 in climate funds to install solar panels at his car dealerships after having voted against the funding.

In 2023, he blamed Biden for a “terror attack” at the Canadian border that turned out to be just a wealthy tourist who crashed his car while rushing to a Kiss concert.

In 2021, Kelly led an anti-Biden panel at CPAC titled “Our Moron In Chief.”

In December 2020, Kelly sponsored an ultimately failed lawsuit to throw out Pennsylvania’s mail-in votes.

In 2019, Kelly ridiculed House progressives by declaring himself a person of color because white is a color.
