The Daily Beast reports:
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) gave his heartfelt regards to former President Jimmy Carter on Tuesday after he shared on social media a fake letter that claimed the 99-year-old had died.
“Former President Jimmy Carter has died. My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” the senator wrote in a quickly deleted post on X, with a picture of the “letter” attached.
Carter’s office was later forced to respond to the rumors, saying there “has been no announcement or change” to the former president’s status.

Two weeks ago Lee also blamed the media after spreading the hoax that Biden had a “medical emergency” aboard Air Force One.
As the Salt Lake Tribune noted at the time, Lee averages 1800 posts on X per month, or around 60 times per day.
Lee’s username on X, Based Mike Lee, is a nod to far-right activists who define “based” as unconcerned with the opinions, feelings, or well-being of others.
This is why Donald Trump’s term for the MSM—“fake news”—caught on.
It’s not that everything they say is fake, it’s that any objectivity they try to portray is itself fake.
