Widespread Texas Power Outage Expected To Last Days

The Dallas Morning News reports:

Power outages caused by severe weather Tuesday morning in Dallas County will likely span days as more storms approach the region, officials said.

County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins signed a declaration of disaster as more than 322,000 residents were without electricity. Oncor reported more than 600,000 of its customers, including those in Dallas and Tarrant counties, were experiencing an outage as of Tuesday morning.

Crews restoring power will prioritize critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and nursing homes, which may be operating on generators, he said, and county officials are working with cities to open public cooling spaces at recreation centers.

The Associated Press reports:

Social media posts showed winds pushing one American Airlines plane away from a gate at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The airline said in a statement that the severe weather, including straight-line wind gusts up to 80 mph, affected several parked and unoccupied aircraft. No one was injured.

The airport said in an email to The Associated Press that about 500 flights were canceled because of the weather. Nearly another 200 flights were canceled at Dallas Love Field Airport, according to the website FlightAware.

Around Houston, cars crawled through flooded highways and more than 300,000 customers were without power in the area, which includes parts still recovering from hurricane-force winds earlier this month.
