The Daily Beast reports:
Fox News host Jesse Watters on Friday claimed there is no difference between being gay and being transgender. “We adopted a young child, and at age five, he was playing with dolls, and everybody knew he was gay, or was going to be gay. And it’s not like all of a sudden we took him to the doctor and chopped him off. No one would ever do that,” Watters said.
Co-host Jessica Tarlov didn’t let that slide, though. “Well, ‘gay’ and ‘trans’ are different, and that’s not how ‘gay’ works, either,” she rebutted.
Yet Watters insisted otherwise. “I don’t believe it is. A lot of these people are just gay—or lesbian,” he asserted. “And what they’re doing is they’re intervening in a regular gay or lesbian life, and that’s a new experience, and it never used to be like that.”
Read the full article. It doesn’t appear that the adopted boy Watters mentions is his own as he has four biological children, two each from his two wives. Watters was talking about a new “study,” which is thoroughly debunked below.

1. Yesterday, the Daily Mail published a story stating that a new “landmark” study backs up claims that being transgender is “just a phase.”
The study showed no such thing, and the Daily Mail commits egregious factual errors in its reporting.

2. The Daily Mail story, seen 35,000,000 times after being shared by Elon Musk shared it, claims most “gender confused” youth “grow out of it.”
The study itself does not say any such thing, and does not study transgender people.

3. A fact check of both the story and the article it cites finds that:
– It does not actually measure transgender people
– Data does not back up the central claim in the news story
– Even still, there is evidence in the study of stable trans identities— Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) April 5, 2024
4. The study was published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, run by Ken Zucker – a noted anti-trans activist and researcher with ties to conversion therapy.
This journal has become a “parking journal” for most anti-trans research articles.

13. The Daily Mail then interviews Dr. Jay Richards, identifying him as the director of the Helon DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family (neglecting to mention this is at the far right Heritage Foundation), who claims trans people desist at 80%+ rates.
This is also false. pic.twitter.com/g5gLuPuwV0
