Under New York state law, each side has a fixed number of peremptory strikes (defined as for no stated reason) depending on the charges, otherwise a defense lawyer could delay a trial indefinitely by rejecting every prospective juror. In Trump’s case, the number of peremptory strikes allowed is ten, of which Trump’s lawyers have so far used six.
Trump’s complaint about strikes is odd for multiple reasons — 1) it would make no sense for strikes to be unlimited in any criminal case; 2) his lawyers have known there would be 10 strikes for months. pic.twitter.com/vHdJ4Rmmhp
