Trump Says Abortion Should Be Left To the States

The Washington Post reports:

Former president Donald Trump, who has wavered between highlighting and downplaying his role in curtailing abortion rights, suggested Monday that the politically volatile issue should be left to states, after months of mixed signals about his position.

“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state,” Trump said in a video.

Some urged Trump to get behind a national ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, while others warned that such restrictions are a nonstarter in Congress and could further galvanize the left.

Former President Donald Trump told the dangerous lie that Democrats believe in “executing the baby after birth” as he made his hyped announcement of his position on abortion.

“It must be remembered that the Democrats are the radical ones are in this position because they support abortion up to and even beyond the ninth month. The concept of having an abortion in the later months, and even execution after birth. And that’s exactly what it is. The baby is born. The baby is executed after birth is unacceptable, and almost everyone agrees with that.”
