ABC News reports:
Sources tell Channel 9 a deputy U.S. Marshal was killed Monday in what police are calling an “active” situation in east Charlotte. “Numerous” law enforcement officers were shot, police said. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department shared news of the shooting just before 2 p.m.
They said it happened while the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was trying to serve a warrant in a neighborhood along Galway Drive. Around 2:15 p.m., CMPD said “multiple” people have been taken to local hospitals and an active investigation is underway.
Police are asking members of the public to stay away from the area, which is in a residential area in eastern Charlotte. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said “multiple” people were injured and rushed to local hospitals.
