Nebraska is one of two states that does not have a winner-take-all policy, where the winner of the statewide vote receives all the state’s electoral votes. Nebraska’s electoral votes are instead split among the statewide and congressional district winners, including a swing district in the Omaha area that President Biden carried in 2020 as Trump easily won statewide.
Charlie Kirk, the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, asked his nearly 3 million X followers on Tuesday to call Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen (R) and state lawmakers to “demand their state stop pointlessly giving strength to their political enemies.”
Kirk’s message was reposted by Chris LaCivita, a top Trump campaign official. Kirk noted there is already a bill “ready to go” that would make Nebraska a winner-take-all state. But its chances of becoming law appear unlikely at this point in the state’s legislative session, which ends April 18.
