Judge Rejects Trump’s Last Minute Recusal Demand

Politico reports:

In his first moments on the bench, Justice Juan Merchan denied Donald Trump’s bid to get the judge to recuse himself from the case.

As Trump watched, stone-faced, from the defense table, Merchan reviewed the former president’s court filings arguing that the judge should step down, which largely centered on Merchan’s adult daughter’s work for a consulting firm that has Democratic clients.

Trump also took issue with a recent interview the judge did with The Associated Press, in which he said preparation for the trial was “intense.” “There’s no agenda here,” he said. “We want to follow the law. We want justice to be done.”
