House Republicans will delay bringing their case against Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate until next week, two months after impeaching the Homeland Security secretary. It will be the third time in five years that senators are sworn in as jurors in the court of impeachment.
House Speaker Mike Johnson had planned to send the impeachment charges to the Senate on Wednesday, but said Tuesday he would wait until next week as Republicans try to make a case for a full Senate trial.
Johnson and Senate Republicans are pushing Schumer to hold a full trial. “If he cares about the Constitution and ending the devastation caused by Biden’s border catastrophe, Senator Schumer will quickly schedule a full public trial and hear the arguments put forth by our impeachment managers,” Johnson said.
