Miami’s ABC affiliate reports:
Two individuals have been taken into custody following an incident at a Southwest Miami-Dade day care, where they allegedly caused a panic by brandishing rifles in the vicinity of the day care center. Miguel Ruiz and Estrella Pereira are accused of removing two rifles from the trunk of a Corvette in the Devon Aire Kiddy College’s parking lot.
Surveillance video Ruiz and Pereira are seen staging what looks like a photo shoot with what police report was a loaded gun feet away from children.
Ruiz allegedly aimed the weapons toward the school building, as well as a mother who was picking up her child, while Pereira reportedly captured photographs of the scene. The day care immediately went into lock down. Both Ruiz and Pereira were in court Tuesday facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and exhibiting a firearm near school property.
Miami’s NBC affiliate reports:
Estrella said it was a misunderstanding and she didn’t know there was a day care nearby. “Really, we’re not bad people, we will never harm anyone or anything. We’re bodybuilders and we’re into the social media thing, YouTube channel, you know, Instagram so forth and he thought it would be cool to take a picture with a gun, because with muscles and guns and it sounds really cool like if you look at a photograph like that,” she said.
According to the linked reports, the couples’ Instagram account indeed has a focus on “muscles and guns.” Watch the clips.
