Freedom Caucus Rep To Retire, Cites Death Threat

Newsweek reports:

Republican Representative Matt Rosendale announced on Friday that he is planning to leave Congress over “defamatory rumors.”

In a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter, Rosendale said that he will be withdrawing from the House race. Rosendale previously announced that he was backing out of the Senate race shortly after launching his campaign.

“Since that announcement, I have been forced to have law enforcement visit my children because of a death threat against me and false and defamatory rumors against me and my family,” Rosendale said.

Mediaite reports:

Rosendale, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, briefly joined the GOP primary to run against Sen. John Tester (D-MT) in November.

He quickly quit after Donald Trump and the National Republican Senatorial Committee endorsed his opponent – ex-Navy SEAL and aerospace millionaire Tim Sheehy.

Rosendale came under harsh criticism from many on the right, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who blasted him online as a “grifter.”

The Insider reports

Heidi Heitkamp, a former Democratic senator from North Dakota, may face legal action after she said a Republican congressman impregnated a young staffer.

During an episode of the “Talking Feds” podcast released on Monday, Heitkamp floated the salacious “rumor” about Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale, who recently suspended his campaign for the US Senate in Montana.

“Just to gossip a little bit, there’s a reason why Rosendale backed out of that Senate race,” said Heitkamp. “The rumor is that he impregnated a 20-year-old staff person.” She also predicted that Rosendale would soon resign from Congress as a result of the alleged incident.
